Flange usually connected by welding or by screws. Due to the brilliant popularity and usage in the mechanical piping aspects. This has been designed for different types to be able to meet the normal, critical and particular specifications. As we go along we will learn the flange type.
There are 7 types of flanges along with different applications.
1. Slip-on flange
2. Threaded flange
The threaded flange does not require welding.
3. Socket Weld Flange
4. Lap joint flange
The lap-joint pipe is used for the application that needs frequent dismantling. So, the advantage of this kind of flange is on the Stub end which creates easily alignment of bolts hole.
5. Welded Neck
6. Long weld neck flange
The long weld neck flange (LWN) is commonly applied to a pressure vessel.

7. Blind Flange
So, Blind flange usually found at the end of the piping line. usually, it is paired with the 6 types of flanges as above for covering purposes.
Given that flanges are essential within piping systems. The flange is categorized into 3 namely, The low turbulence flange, The Low-Stress Flange, and the others.
Low turbulence flange are the following,
Weld neck and socket weld.
Fluid turbulence affects the flow and performance of the piping systems. these two types of flanges help to reduce the turbulence as well as inside erosion. This will make the flow smooth and in good quality.
Low-stress flange are the following,
lap-joint flange and threaded flange
So, Both the types of the flange are design for easy dismantling and installation that does not require welding.
Others are the following,
long weld neck, slip-on flange, blind flange.
They are all design as per special purposes like for long weld neck vessels requires good space distance for the flange for the ease of installation. Then, for slip-on flange provides the high strength connection as it is welded by two points inside and outside. and lastly, for the blind flange, everything has an end. this flange ends the flow thru the pipe. it blocks the flow at the end.
